Tani no Shiote (谷塩手)

TANI no Shiote (year of birth unknown-August 24, 672) was a person from the Asuka Period in Japan.
In the old Japanese syllabary characters, his name was pronounced 'TANI no Shihote.'
His Kabane (hereditary title) was Atai. In the Jinshin War which broke out in 672, TANI became a commander of the Prince Otomo's army. And he was slain by the enemy.

The Tani clan was one of the Yamatonoaya clan, the families of immigrants came from overseas to ancient Japan. During the Jinshin War, the Tani clan fought among themselves and became sallies and enemies. Shiote fought for Prince Otomo as the commander. Shiote was believed to have taken part in the final battle broke out in Seta on August 23. MURAKUNI no Oyori, after defeating Prince Otomo and setting up a camp in Awazu no Oka, slew INUKAI no Ikimi and TANI no Shiote with his sword on the next day. Prince Otomo's death, as he committed suicide on the same day, brought an end to the Jinshin War. Further information about him is unknown.
